Obligatory New Years Post Horrah! Pt. 1

First and foremost, Happy 2010! Once again, we are faced with a “fresh start”, a New Year. This is the time of year we all reflect upon our big successes and bigger failures of the previous 365 days and make plans for the new year.

You probably noticed the “Pt. 1” up there in the title. I decided to make THREE blogs about New Years. This one is all about reflection…

2009 In Review

I had the very pleasure of spending New Years Eve last year with a very good friend of mine, who I got to meet in person for the first time. We’ve been internet friends forever, and it was long over-due that we meet. Spending those few days with her was amazing.

In February, I got fired from a job where I was making no money, literally. I was paid on commission only, and wasn’t making anything, which is why I was let go. Finding a new job was the hard part. Also, in February, I found justice and relief that was long overdue.

With Spring came the best bad decision I ever made. Being financially strapped, my tax return could have gotten me a lot of things, and what did it get me? It got me a trip to Los Angeles to see one of my favorite bands, Julien-K. That’s right, I flew ACROSS THE COUNTRY for 3 days, and honestly, cried when I had to come home. Again. I lived, I laughed, I loved, I encountered creepy homeless people, and creepy stalkers, and I would kill to have those 3 days back. Reconnecting with friends and loved ones was worth screwing myself financially. I mean it when I say that, it was worth every ill-spent penny.

At the end of May, a friend of mine begged me to move in with her down in Virginia, and I agreed. I was on my way to a new life. And at the end of the month, I was in a new place, and found a whole new batch of bullshit.

In June, I found pain. Well, technically it was May, but close enough. I fell out of the back of a truck, and spent June and July recovering the worst of the injuries. I still live with some of the damage today. I also found myself at yet another Julien-K show. Those boys somehow always come around when I need them most. The rest of the summer was spent trying to get back on my feet.

In August, I finally started working again. I worked at a discount department store for 2 weeks, hated it, found 2 other jobs, and quit. I fell in LOVE with the 2 other companies I was working for. My younger twin sisters came for a temporary stay that turned permanent, and I became responsible for two 17-year-olds. My uncle went to jail for a very big white collar crime, and it put a big strain on my whole family.

On the 20th of September, I turned the ripe-old age of 24. It was spent with my family, and it was an amazing birthday. I also started noticing my friendship falling apart with my “roommates”. In fact, at the end of September, she gave me 6 days to move out…

Why it took this long for my life to fall apart again, who knows. In October, my “friend” and “roommate” made living with her so awkward and horrible that I allowed her to break the law and throw me out with 6 days to move. My sisters and I lived in a hotel room for 2 weeks before I threw in the towel and asked my Grandmother and Mother to come down and get us and move us back to Massachusetts. That was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make.

The holidays, particularly Christmas, were hard, and horrible in it’s own ways. With no money, and stress, and other personal things I don’t want to touch on, it’s been a hard month.

In conclusion, 2009 was a rocky year for me. I know I’m not alone, but I spent most of the year just trying to earn a paycheck, and most of the year failing to earn said check. I made good progress on last years resolutions, but didn’t meet any of my goals.

But tomorrow, tomorrow is a clean slate. Tomorrow is a chance to start again. And who knows where 2010 will take me.

(To Be Continued)
